Natalie Clayton – Leeds Half Marathon

Natalie Clayton and Josh ran in the Leeds Half Marathon to raise money for ITP Support Association as our niece, Eme, suffers from ITP.

ITP, or Immune Thrombocytopenia, is a blood disorder where the body’s immune system mistakenly attacks and destroys platelets – the blood cells that help stop bleeding.

Eme was diagnosed with ITP at 7 years old after she appeared to come out in a red rash, one that didn’t disappear when pressure was applied (similar symptom to meningitis). A trip to A&E and a blood test later, Eme was delivered her diagnosis. To confirm this and to dismiss any other sinister illnesses, an invasive procedure had to be carried out which was to extract some of Eme’s spinal fluid for testing – this confirmed ITP. Almost two years on and 3 different medication treatments later, Eme’s condition has slightly improved but is deemed to be chronic.
