ITP Research funded or supported by the Association
There is no state funding for ITP research, nor does The ITP Support Association receive any government funding, so it is entirely due to the generous donations and fundraising efforts of people with an interest in ITP that such valuable and much-needed research, as listed below, has been carried out.
2021 Grants for the ITP Registries:
- £22,000 to support Dr. John Grainger’s ITP Childhood Registry at the Manchester Children’s Hospital.
- £22,000 to support the Adult ITP Registry at the Royal London Hospital, Whitechapel
- £5,000 to fund the ITP in Pregnancy Registry at Guy’s Hospital, London

- £16,000 to Dr Angharad Care for a Prospective Study of Current UK Management of Severe Primary Immune Thrombocytopenia (ITP) in Pregnancy
- £60,000 to Dr James Crawley for Identification of novel pathogenic antiplatelet antibodies in ITP
- £9,000 to Dr Nichola Cooper for a Confocal bone marrow examination in ITP patients
- £18,500 to Dr Robert Stasi to investigate The role of bone marrow mesenchymal stromal cells in chronic ITP
- £5000 to Dr Bolton Maggs towards the study of newly diagnosed ITP children.
- £37,000 to Dr. Provan for a molecular analysis of ITP treatment predictors.
- £10,000 funding the pilot year of the Adult ITP Registry.
- £10,000 to fund the UK component of Professor Victor Blanchette’s international Childhood ITP Quality of Life Study.
- £39,000 to sponsor a scientist working full time in ITP research and analysis at the Royal London Hospital.
- £68,900 to Prof. John Hunter to investigate Is Food Intolerance a factor causing ITP at Addenbrookes Hospital, Cambridge
